Campground Cookies!

Recently life on the road has been an experience all in
itself. With funds running extremely low, bills looming ahead, and the reality
of five constantly hungry children, we made the decision to go without some of
the major perks in life. One of them being electricity!

Ten days without electricity makes life interesting to say
the least. While I am not a fan of much more than the coffee from McDonald’s, I
have found myself extremely thankful for their many play places. Especially the
ones that have plug-ins right in the play room. With that and their free WiFi,
I am able to charge both my lap top and my cell phone. I am also able to get
online to submit my college assignments and sometimes even a moment to promote
my new website: www.youareworthytoo.com

When it comes to cooking, not having electric causes you to
have to be a little more creative in the way you prepare meals. It also limits
a lot of things you can prepare. For instance, microwave popcorn and fresh
baked cookies are a rarity.

It is only by the grace of God that I have been blessed by
others in the many ways I have. I find it amazing and inspiring that when I
pray, God sends me acknowledgement that he has it all covered. For instance,
while living at the last Wal-Mart, we met a couple that has been in our same
situation all summer. They already knew how we could get a PO Box and get the
children enrolled in school without having a physical set address before school
begins. They were literally an answer to a prayer. They are also the ones that
told us about the campground we are at this week! It is the least amount we
have had to pay per day. Granted they only had availability Sunday night
through Thursday night, but that is five nights with electricity. In
celebration of us both being able to afford to camp for the week, we baked 3
dozen cookies last night! I’m telling you there is nothing like the fragrance
of homemade cookies baking in the oven. It is the little things in life that
put full blown smiles on the faces of both children and adults.

Recently I had shared in another post that less is often
more. This is just another example of such things. By going without the ability
to pop popcorn in three minutes or brew a simple K-cup of coffee, it made those
things much more pleasurable. You could say it adds an element of gratitude for
the smaller things in life. To be able to bake cookies and share them with
friends who don’t have a way to cook such things even with the added benefit of
electricity, that moment in time, as the plate of cookies were passed around,
will be a moment I won’t soon forget.

Today as you go about doing what needs to be done, take a
moment to give thanks to God for all the little things you have, even give
thanks for your basic electricity and water. Be blessed and be a blessing!

Here is my encouraging word of the day: Psalm 100:4: Enter
into His Gates with Thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.
