Slavery, What the New Testament Has to Say on the Subject!

Reading Response Paper #2: The Book of Philemon

We are told in our reading of Gundry that “Philemon became a Christian through Paul” (Gundry, pg 454). As brothers in Christ, they must have enjoyed a close relationship. We are also told that there were no church buildings for the early Christians to meet in, so the church meetings were held in individual homes. Since we learn in our reading that Philemon actually had a house church where Paul taught, one can assume they were close brothers in Christ who respected one another and loved one another greatly due to these verses:
[1] Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved brother and fellow worker, [2] and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow soldier, and to the church in your house: (Philemon 1:1-2, NASB)
[7] For I have come to have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother. (Philemon 1:7, NASB)
[9] yet for love’s sake I rather appeal to you, since I am such a person as Paul, the aged and now also a prisoner of Christ Jesus. (Philemon 1:9, NASB)
On one hand, Paul points out that he could order Philemon to do as he wishes and on the other hand he points out that he loves and respects Philemon as a brother in Christ and with that being said, instead of ordering, he appeals to his understanding of the message of grace alone. Paul makes it clear in his opening that Philemon is more than just a believer of Christ; he is listed also as a worker. These combined verses speak very highly of a mutually respectful friendship.
It is clear in Paul’s letter that he believes Onesimus’ conversion to Christ changes the relationship between Philemon and Onesimus as more than simply master and slave. He even suggests the possibility that the reason Onesimus left the service of Philemon was all a part of God’s greater plan. Now instead of Onesimus being nothing more than a slave to Philemon, he is returning as a beloved brother in Christ:
[15] For perhaps he was for this reason separated from you for a while, that you would have him back forever, [16] no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord. (Philemon 1:15-16, NASB)
Seeing how Philemon and Paul were close brother’s in Christ, there is little room for doubt concerning where Paul stood on the subject of masters and slaves; no matter what position one held in life, when you were committed to Christ, everything you did, how you worked, how you treated others, it all was in obedience to the Lord, not man.
A quick read of several verses makes it clear that those who were slaves prior to being called are in essence freedmen while now being Christ’s slave. It is also just as clear how masters were to treat their slaves. These are a few of the verses Paul wrote through various letters regarding the relationship between master and slaves in general:
For he who was called in the Lord while a slave, is the Lord’s freedman; likewise he who was called while free, is Christ’s slave. (1 Corinthians 7:22, NASB)
Slaves, in all things obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. [23] Whatever you do, do your work heartily as for the Lord rather than for men, [24] knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. (Colossians 3:22-24, NASB)
Masters, grant your slaves justice and fairness, knowing that you too have a Master in heaven. (Colossians 4;1, NASB)
[5] Slaves, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in sincerity of your heart as to Christ; [6] not by way of eye-service, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart. (Ephesians 6:5-6, NASB)
[9] And masters, do the same things to them, and give up threatening, knowing that both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no partiality with Him.
When it comes to slaves and masters that find themselves in the position to minister to others, Paul makes it adamantly clear that in order to not have both doctrine and God spoken against, we must be respectful of one another, regardless of social position. (1 Timothy 6:1-2)
Paul also writes about the way that bondslaves are to behave toward their masters in his short letter to Titus. When you consider the ultimate truth; that we are to love one another as we love ourselves, it makes it impossible to deny how we are to behave towards one another, earthly slave and master alike. Without demanding that Philemon forgive Onesimus, Paul insinuates as a follower of Christ this should be a given on the part of Philemon. To ensure that there are no hard feelings between the two, Paul himself offers to reimburse Philemon any debt he may feel he is owed by Onesimus while also reminding Philemon that due to Paul’s teaching, he himself has gained more than he could ever lose and in essence is truly owed nothing:
[18] But if he has wronged you in any way or owes you anything, charge that to my account; [19] I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand, I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe me even your own self as well). (Philemon 1:18-19, NASB)
I truly think that Paul is quite a clever writer. He sends Onesimus back to Philemon with this letter knowing that as Philemon reads it, his heart will be softened in multiple ways. Not only will he have to accept Onesimus as a brother in Christ, he is most likely going to put him to work helping Paul as requested. How could he deny the very one who has risked his own life to share the good news with Philemon and so many others?
This letter certainly does not uphold slavery as an institution and at the same time it doesn’t really point to its demise. I think it highlights the truth that in this world, some of us are slaves and some of us are masters; some of us are employees and some of us are the bosses. Some of us have financial and material blessings and some of us depend on the kindness of strangers, and a few of us have been blessed to have walked in several of these shoes. No matter what our earthly position turns out to be, our role in this life is truly the same. We are to treat each other with kindness, love and respect always knowing that in the end we truly serve the same Master in heaven. In that respect, one could say that we are bondservants to Christ, even if we are considered to be free in man’s eyes.
When it comes to how I will apply what I have learned in both my ministry and my social life regarding this particular session, things have not really changed. For longer than I can remember, I have had the mindset that I don’t work or serve men alone. While I do love praise from my boss or my teachers, in the long run, all I do in this life, I do for the LORD.
When it comes to how I intend to treat others in the world, both through my ministry which in all honesty flows over into my social life, I am drawn to this Scripture:
[31] “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. [32] All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; [33] and He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left. [34] “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. [35] For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; [36] naked, and you clothed Me, I was sick, and you visited Me, I was in prison, and you came to Me’. [37] Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give you something to drink? [38] And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? [39] When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ [40] The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
The only thing missing from this Scripture is forgiveness of transgressions. Paul makes it clear that this is something we should be willing to do for our Father in heaven has done as much for us. Since we are children of God, we should behave as Him. My favorite Scripture regarding forgiveness is this one:
[21] Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” [22] Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. (Matthew 18:21-22, NASB)
Christ is my LORD and Savior. He loves all of us. Much like Paul, I consider myself His bondservant. Therefore, I intend to serve Him all my days with all my heart, mind and soul, in all ways possible.

Do You Want To Be A Champion?

Totally Tripping Tremendously Thankful Thoroughly Thoughtful Thunderous Thursday! Can I hear a boom boom! Oh I am so in love with Christ. I am so in awe of what He has done for me. What a friend! What a Savior! What a King! What a Lord! I mean when you consider that He didn't just die for us, He allowed himself to be hung on a cross for our sins when He was sinless. Before his sacrifice, we all faced a Certain death. A Finality. Sure, there are various ways we all die. Some of them seem so wrong and cruel and vicious and unjust and truly many times they are just that. What we need to remember is that this death is no longer our Finality. Thanks to Christ, when we believe we are saved and while we die here on earth that is not our final hour. What an amazing blessing to be bestowed with such Grace.

For me it gets even better than that. You see before Christ died, He Taught. He taught us a better way to maneuver through this life. A way that would allow us to live abundantly! Abundantly!!

We are not capable of living out the Law. No human can live all their days here on earth without stumbling when it comes to the Ten Commandments. Jesus took that law handed down and expanded it's meaning to show us that without Grace we would never make it. Today I am so thankful for Grace, especially when I read today's encouraging word from K-Love:

Don't sin by letting anger control you.
Think about it overnight and remain silent. ~ Psalm 4:4-5, NLT

Not sure about you but I have moments of anger rise. It is only by my desire to walk in the Spirit that I am able to follow in Jesus teachings. This is not to say I never get angry! Sadly I still have my moments. However the Voice of Righteousness convicts me of my emotions and reminds me who I am in Christ.

That transformation did not happen overnight. It has come about over time by the renewing of my mind. I am happy I read today's encouraging word before coming to work this morning. No sooner than I sat at my desk, I had a phone call from an angry person that wasn't even our customer. I felt truly sorry for the person on the other end for anger was in control of them. You could literally feel it coming across the phone. I tried to get them to see that while they were angry and threatening me that all I was capable of doing was listening to their rant but in the end the result would remain the same.

Sadly this only made them angrier and they began calling me things. I recognized that this was their feeble attempt to get me upset. I was wearing my armor and their words dissipated into the harmless vapor they were all along.

Anger is one of the evil ones best weapons. He gets in your head and can spark that rage to ridiculous heights. Just think of Cain and Able. He has been playing this game since the beginning. Anger and Jealousy are two of the top weapons the evil one uses to get one person to hurt, harm and even murder another.

Realizing that anger in itself is a sin. Knowing that sin separates you from God, can you imagine a life without grace? It would be short lived! We would all be toast for real in the end no matter how we made our exit. Today that is not the case and that my friends is the good news. These are the words you should repeat to yourself every morning and night and reflect on just what they mean for you.

Jesus. Grace. Saved. Redeemed. Saints. Rest. Fruit of The Spirit. Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self Control. Walk in The Spirit. Convicted of Your Righteousness.

Now many false teachers believe if they tell the world all about Jesus and help others actually see the truth, then those that listen and get it will go crazy thinking they have no cause to be or do good.

The truth is, when you realize the truth, the Holy Spirit convicts you of your righteousness and you will Want to walk in the Spirit. You will understand and truly feel the difference. Walking outside of the spirit will not feel good.

It is true some accept Jesus and walk in a moment of darkness. After all the evil one is not going to let you go simply because you accept Christ. Oh no. No. NO. He is going to come after you with a vengeance. You see, the father of lies cannot allow you to accept Christ and proceed to easily walk the rest of your life on cloud nine knowing the truth and sharing it with others. Nope. He is going to throw everything at you. This is why it is so important to renew your mind daily with the word. It is why our Lord went to such lengths to leave us with such great writings of advice and council. You are blessed and protected in the reading of the Word. It truly is armor.

Should you wonder how I can be so sure of such protection you should go back and read just one of my blogs from this summer. I will highlight it at the bottom. It is a timeline of when and how the evil one came at me with two barrels fully loaded. I felt the blows. Trust me I did. The more he came at me, the more I turned to the Lord and dove into His word.

The armor we are advised to wear makes a GIGANTIC difference in how well we dance through the battle being waged upon us. Every day you wake up, you should dress for battle. We truly are in a spiritual war. The evil one is quite the adversary. He has had thousands of years to watch us. You think he hasn't come across the likes of you before?

There is one person who walked this earth in a human form that lived out the law and when He was crucified and His blood was poured out, everything changed. The most important thing you can do in your life is learn about and understand just who Jesus was. The next most important thing you can do with your life is spend it sharing what you have learned with anyone and everyone.

I love that this verse comes before the teachings of Jesus and I love Psalms. We are taking a deep dive into four Psalms at my home church on Sundays. King David, the same David that defeated Goliath, was truly a man after God's heart. I am indeed a woman after God's heart. So it makes perfect sense that King David's words make my heart leap with joy. I feel my blood race through my veins when I read various Psalms written by King David. Honestly, I get the same feeling when I read some of the things written by Paul as well. They remind me of champions for the Lord. I want to be a champion for my Lord. I want others to understand and feel the Love the Lord holds for them. I want them to experience it for themselves. There is no greater feeling in the world then knowing your Heavenly Father is smiling upon you.

Father I come before you today with songs of praise. What a loving Father you are. What a foolish child I was. I am so thankful for your Grace and your Faithfulness. What a blessing they are. I truly love how much you care for me. Your ways are amazing and I am often left in awe for the the many blessings you bestow upon me. I am unsure what I ever did to earn such favor but I am sure thankful for it! All I long for the rest of my days is to be a champion for you. A mighty warrior. Use me Lord to reach out to others. Please use my fingers to say what it is you want to say. I love all the words you have left for me to read through others. They make me sing and dance and laugh and leap with joy for I know they are all true. You love your children. You desire for us to live abundant lives. I pray that others feel your love to such depths as I Father. May their hearts sing praises to you. May we glorify you in all we do. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Tomorrow Could Just Be The Best Day of Your Life!

Good Morning World! Today is Wild Wacky Wonderful Weds. Wow!! I have so much to share . . . I need more time to myself . . . Spring has sprung at work and Glidden Fence Company Inc is so blessed this year for we have enough work to keep ourselves all hopping! Feels good after a long winter ♥ Weds are the day that inspired me in changing my mindset! You see, it's the day that I have no help. No lunch break. Some days it's all I can do to get a drink. It's an insane pace but I have made a game of it over the years.
Regardless when going at that pace you are bound to make an error, get yelled at, or have someone get angry with you. I have bawled my eyes out over a customer getting angry at me over something they consider life shattering. Usually it is not an actual life shattering problem, especially when you weigh the matter against the matters of the world, yet I cannot say that to them!

Today, I pray we all give each other a little more encouragement and slack. I pray we go about our day smiling and being an encouragement to others. Put yourself in someone else's shoes.

One of my favorite lines from Jesus is when He stepped forward and said, "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone." I had that stenciled out and on my wall when I was a teenager! One day I will share other items I had up as well!

Anyway, Weds were the reason I wrote the blog "It Starts with Your Mindset" If you struggle with the days of the week and associate them in the slightest negative way, I encourage you to check out this blog. Following this formula has totally changed my outlook!

Speaking of outlook, on my way to work this morning in the midst of singing praises and just smiling as I belted along with the radio. Chris Tomlin, I lift my hands was on . . . You should check it out on YouTube. I believe many of you will love the words. Next came a song about How much God loves us and I was reflecting on all I had been through over my mere 44 years and I was overwhelmed with God's love for me. Next I flashed on how down some of us are throughout our journey. I don't think there is a human being out there who hasn't had an awful day and wished they could go to bed and never get back up. That made me reflect on the sadness of so many ending their lives when they hit these lows and my heart ached. I thought to myself, "I have had days I too wished I could curl up and die but had I, I would have missed some of the Best days of my life!" Yesterday was admittedly the worst day of my life. This was the message I shared with the world:

A Sad Saturday

With that in mind, I would like you to recall the last "Best Day of Your Life" ANY time you hit the lowest of lows and remind yourself that this moment too shall pass. Please get on your knees and pray to Your Father in Heaven for peace, joy, and strength. He is always there waiting for your plea. Ask others to pray for you. Reach out to your fellow brothers and sisters. Please what ever you do don't play with ending your life. After all, Tomorrow could just be The Best Day of Your Life!

Today I pray for all who are dealing with depression. Father I too have been in this black hole. I thank you for showing me I could turn to you any day any time any where. I ask that you go to those who are in pain and darkness and flicker some light their way. Send a hand or foot of Jesus to them Father. I also pray that those of us who are firm in our faith become more bold in sharing your message of Grace and Glory. I pray Father that we step out of the shadows ourselves and regardless of fear that may attack us from the evil one that we push on, headstrong in the fight. I pray we begin to show each other the Grace you alot us Father. In Jesus name I pray! Amen.

****** In my heart, I believe my story was written to help many who are hurting in some way ~ if you are that person or you know a person, please visit this link "The Proof is in the Pudding!" and buy a copy for yourself or a friend!

My Lunch Experience at Wendy's Restaurant in Westfield, Indiana!

Today before I headed off to lunch I had posted a sign on Facebook that read, "Be kind to Mean people, they need kindness the most." I challenged my friends to go about the day and help other people smile! I take my challenges seriously!

Smile 1 & 2 were delivered to total strangers! I ran out to grab some chili from Wendy's. Since I am on a health kick, I am avoiding sitting in line in the drive through. Every step counts you know. So I went inside walked up to the counter (FREEZING because it was actually snowing) and promptly ordered two buckets of sunshine. The girl, Melissa, paused, looked up and laughed. Her assistant grinned too! I then placed my order: Large Chili with Lots of onions. She then asks me,  "you want them on the bottom and the top?"

Guess who's smiling now?! ME!! "Oh yea!" I said.

She then tells her crew, "Oh yea! I'm making her chili delicious!" Which made a couple of them chuckle.

Totally made my afternoon! Talk about customer service!! Melissa at the Wendy's on SR 32 just east of Carey Road. You will forever Rock in my book of all time favorite servers!! Thanks for the great smile and I don't know what you did to my chili . . . perhaps it's the dash of happiness you added . . . BEST cup of Chili I have ever eaten from Wendy's!!! Shaking my head. Laughing and Loving Life!

Today I pray that as believers going about our day, may we take the time to encourage others. We know such good news. I pray that we share it! Today I pray we begin to let the fruits of the spirit take over in our life so that others will be drawn to us longing to learn what makes us so happy. I pray that we listen to the voice of God and remain His humble servant. I pray more and more and more of us join together encouraging one another. Today I also pray for non believers. I pray my stories inspire you to think about Your Creator. I pray that you open your mind and heart to the possibility. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Who Among Us?

So this morning in conversation, I mentioned to Mike, “God says not to be flamboyant about his protection” . . . then out of my mouth I said, “He promises to protect you through the process of circumstance but he doesn’t control how things play out. We all have Free Will.”

That’s when it dawned on me like a lightning bolt. We are the Hands and Feet of Jesus. We are the ones with the FREE WILL! WE decide how we are going to treat another human being.  How we treat one another can CHANGE everything. In the last couple of elections we as a people have longed for CHANGE. The difference is in how we explain the CHANGE we ALL want.

Here is what I see:

(1) We want more KINDNESS . . . that is what we are really saying with the entitlement programs that have been put in place. Everyone enjoys feeling kind . . . it does something to your heart. We just somehow got to the point with being okay with the government doing it for us. The disconnect from being a part of encouraging someone in this manner is a detriment to our society. The Government is not the body of Christ. It is the law of the land. They can and will never do the job we were meant to do ourselves.

*Sorry ~ the government is the government. They are not Knights in shining armor. They are too busy being childish to even be cable of listening to THEIR own hearts. They certainly are NOT listening to OURS. They have been too busy stirring the flames. Pointing fingers. Placing Blame. Keeping us Angry at our situation as well as at each other. Do you know what it says about Anger in the bible?

(2) We want people to be Responsible for Themselves when possible:

A)  The Bible is consistent and clear in its message about those who are least able to fend for themselves, Our Orphans, Our widows and our Elderly. We are to lift them up. I am all for that. We suck at this as a society. There must be a more COMPASSIONATE & AFFORDABLE way. I say we reference the Bible on this!

B) On the flip side when it comes to those of us who are capable, We need to shake things up. Tough Love is a necessary thing!  Let’s admit it. We have some serious slackers.  We have coddled our youth to the point of detriment.  Many of them live in an illusion. I often wonder who among them have been taught the matters of the Heart? I KNOW the majority are able to feel pain and fear: hate, jealousy, self-pity, self-doubt . . . in a nut shell All forms of Anger. We have seen too much acting out to deny this Truth.

(3) Our Legal System:

A) Our punishment system is inhumane.   We live in a fallen world. Our Judicial System is SO FAR OUT OF CONTROL that I often lose my balance in any court room. There is not a whole lot of JUSTICE being served. How have we allowed this to happen? WHERE is OUR compassion?

* We need to encourage one another in ALL of our relationships. Stop the Gossip. Stop the Rumors. Stop the spreading of vicious lies. Start offering a hand and a heart.  Who among us has not caused harm in our lifetime? We all can get better at NOT causing more.

* Who among us has not fallen down on hard times?

* Who among us has not made mistakes? We need to teach our children that this is NOT the end of the world. We need to SHOW them when one falls down they GET BACK UP. THEN they Take a Step Back. NEXT They need to ANALYZE what just went wrong. Then they CHANGE a little or a lot or completely and become a new person!

(4) Our Education System:

A) The Government needs to get out of it. Ask any teacher. Their hands are tied down with as much insane ridiculous restrictions in the name of “God only knows what” that they barely have time to teach.

As a parent I am OVER it!

B) The tenure protection in a 3 year time frame needs to be taken OFF the table. Seriously, what job does one hold where after 3 years they can’t be fired? (Watch the documentary “Waiting on Superman” before passing judgment on this opinion.) Some teachers are not good teachers. It is the truth. They know it in their hearts. They are in charge of young minds. Their hearts should be in the right place. There is a reason I am not a teacher. It’s a HARD freaking job!

I apologize for my rant if I have offended you. I am surprised at what I have written today. God showed me I would fill many pages of paper with ink. I refuse to allow my fear keep me from publishing something that has flowed so quickly out of my fingers. All my knowledge comes from God. I have had much exposure to a lot and I know God uses all evils for good.

It is my prayer that good things stem from my blogs. I pray anyone who reads my blogs will not find themselves angry at me. I only wish to open others to the heart of the matter. We could be so much better to one another if we got to know Jesus a little better. You want a Utopia? He’s the key to achieving it. I pray you find yourself curious enough to pick up a bible. Go to the New Testament and Read John. I joked last night saying, “John is the gospel for all of us who have been looking for Love in all the wrong places.”  There is a lot of Truth to that statement. I pray you take the time out of your busy life to read the Gospel of John. It’s a “Google” away. I end in thanks to Our Heavenly Father for the wisdom shared in the pages of the Bible. Your Word is Food for the soul. Those of us who are able to read it openly are so blessed. I count myself among them.  Amen.

The Golden Rule!

When I was in elementary school, every child knew "The Golden Rule!" Today the same thing cannot be said. Knowing that this Golden Rule came from the Word of God, I pondered this: "Is that why we stopped teaching it in school?"

Where did the big drive to protect our children from so called "Religion" come from? I am not for Religion but I am all for the Word of God! Somehow I just don't think this is what our forefathers had in mind with the whole separation of Church and State.

Teaching our children about morals as well as manners is vital! We have the "don't bully rule" but I don't think there is enough emphasis put on the solution.

Today I am on letter "D" and the verse under it comes out of the Gospel Luke, Chapter 6, Verse 31. On my Alphabet Picture, it reads like this (red because it was said by Jesus himself):

"Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Kind of hard to be cruel and unkind to another person when you know in your heart how you'd feel if the tables were turned! This is not only a good lesson for children, it is a Great lesson for us adults! How can we expect the children to know how to treat others when we aren't good at it ourselves? The honest answer is we shouldn't.

As I sometimes do, I like to take in more than just the quote itself. Again, this paints such a bigger picture. I am going to continue down to verse 36:

"If you love only those who love you, why should you get credit for that?
Even sinners love those who love them!
And if you do good only to those who do good to you, why should you get credit?
Even sinners will lend to other senders for a full return.
Love your enemies! Do good to them.
Lend to them without expecting to be repaid.
Then your reward from heaven will be very great,
and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High,
for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.
You must be compassionate, just as you Father is compassionate."

If you listened to what Jesus taught, and you attempted to follow his directions, your life would be enriched. The Holy Bible is full of incredible stories. Nothing written in The Holy Bible has been discredited throughout history . . . no matter how hard people have tried. I have a hard time understanding the opposition to what the Word of God teaches. I am intrigued by those who are so against a Loving God. My heart goes out to them for I know they have not been shown the Truth. Many are blind to it and unwilling to see.

If you are a parent I make this plea to you, take an honest look into the Word of God . . . skip Genesis for now . . . go to Proverbs or Ephesians. Read it with your own eyes. If you are open to wanting your children to grow into loving, confident adults you owe it to both them and you to do so. Most parents would go to great lengths to give their children a good foundation to succeed in life. I hope you are among them!

I must get working on the next chapter regarding my life story. Again I have been delayed. I must be causing a ripple because the evil one had me almost convinced that I should quit writing about my life with God . . . really about anything to do with God. It was this morning that I realized I was being bombarded with negative thoughts about myself. He is sneaky . . . put down your guard . . . think you've got this thing by it's tail and wham! you are flat on the ground . . . so happy Our Father is there to breathe Life right back into me!

Today, I ask for prayers for all believers and spreaders of the Good News to have moments of encouragement throughout each day. May we encourage and lift up one another in all ways on all days. I pray that those who are in doubt are shown the light. May it be enough to cause one's heart to seek more truth. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Give It to God and Let it Go!

Fast forward to the last few months of my life and it has been put on my heart to share . . . It all came so fast . . . I didn't even have a "blogspot" at the time and I pasted this on facebook of all places. I felt the pull to share them here as well. I hope you enjoy!

Give it to God and LET IT GO!

Why am I blogging what I think? The Holy Spirit inside me guides me to do so. It really is that simple. I have advised others to use their talents while I have hidden mine. Please don’t think me grandstanding but I believe I have a gift. A God given gift. We are meant to share those. Mine is NOT that I am a brilliant writer . . . I think mine is being able to write what I hear quickly! I had a really good grade in typing class. ;-)

So for those of you who I was not friends with approximately a year ago, I had posted the song Beautiful by Carole King. It had woken me up. I seriously thought one of the kids had gotten up and turned on the radio and then was having a little fun continually turning it up. No. It was completely in my head! I was so amazed. I sang it to Mike, the father of my youngest 5, the man I'd been with for almost the last 9 years. He did not recognize the tune.  Convinced it was a song I came to work and sang it to my dad and my uncle. Neither knew it. My dad said it should be a song . . . oh how that makes me laugh. Anyway, it was my uncle who suggested I go to You Tube and type in the lyrics. That morning this was the verse that played in my head again and again and again:

You’ve got to get up EVERY morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart.  People gonna treat you better you gonna find yes you will that you’re Beautiful as you FEEL!”

While this version doesn't even come close to the Amazing Instrumental version I heard in my head sung by the Angel Band, it will do! I hope you take the time to listen!

Pretty good advice wouldn’t you say? I mean when you consider you get more of what you consistently put out . . . if you were to smile at everyone. Engage and smile. Help someone laugh. Your life would have to get better wouldn’t it? Who doesn’t love to FEEL beautiful?

So I have decided the Holy Spirit inside of me is a Karaoke King! It only makes sense . . . this is also how I communicate best with my children when I want them to “get” something without an attitude, I sing to them.  With that being said, today this is what woke me up, “FREE you’re MIND and the Rest WILL Follow!” Now I know that is a song! I don’t know what the rest of it is but that is a song! AGAIN, Great advice.

When you are struck with worry, fear, stress the Holy Spirit suggests that we can just FREE our Mind ~ the rest will Follow!

For Fun, here is the entire song:

I know this seems so simple. Almost too easy but I assure you, I am being helped today because every time my brain desires to go to a disturbing turn of events this line blasts in my head. I decided to give praise for that . . . I have not been allowed to sit and dwell over it. I promise when you have that blast in your head as soon as your focus is turned on a worrisome issue it is hard not to begin to giggle at the issue itself for in all reality it is nothing. So, no need to worry. I know God has this too. He has never failed me and the better you get to know me. The more of my story you learn. The more you will realize and understand even those that believe in God will go through trials and tribulations. We all have days that are nuts. Just because I share my Faith that God loves me does not mean I don’t live a regular Joe Shmoe life. I think some people think God has let them down by allowing them to struggle. As parents don’t we call that tough love?

If you say there is no God because pain exists in the world I pray you will at least begin to open your mind to the possibility that God does exist.  My prayer for you today is that you see the Glory of God for yourself.

May Your day be full of blessings.
 May Your Joy over flow.
Whatever is troubling You today
Give it to God and let it go!
