You Can Lead a Horse to Water

You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink! This well known fact is what got my mind whirling first thing this morning.  I was reflecting on my conversation with someone. He’s in a life battle. I see it clearly but by his refusal to believe that God is cheering him on, he has chosen his personal figure to currently be a pawn. Weirdly enough he is being used against himself. It pains me to witness this for I fully understand his pain. I guess that is the blessing in living through all I have. I can sympathize and empathize, but how do I take that emotion and get others to see the bigger picture without offending them?

There is an incredible life outside of any pain, worry, anguish, apathy or whatever negative emotion you yourself might be swimming in. I used to think that a selfish God would demand you put Him above all other things but I understand that in doing so, pain looses its grip. While you are still more than capable of feeling pain, you are suddenly able to step outside of it. This gives even greater understanding to the passage “Let the dead bury the dead”:

One day Jesus invited a man to follow Him and become His disciple—but the man refused. He said he would follow Jesus later, but first he wanted to go bury his father. Jesus responded, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead” (Matthew 8:22).

When you are caught up in the world and the undertow of emotions it places on you, you are in essence part of the living dead. While you are alive and perhaps surviving, you are not thriving. You are a slave to the world.
Many times an abused woman will stay in an abusive situation simply because while abusive and dangerous, it is familiar so she sees it as ironically safe in a way. She can’t get outside of her prison because she fears the unknown. God reaches out His hand and says ‘Trust me’ and when you do, when you step out in faith, your whole world will change.

This does not mean that you won’t face awful, tragic, heart breaking, insulting, and at times, overwhelming pain. Sometimes so great one would think it would take you out. But in putting God above all things, nothing here in this world has the power to take you out! God promises to turn all bad to good and I’m telling you I have lived through some serious bad. I think that is why God called me forth to reveal all the mess in my life. All the rotten things I have done. All the nightmares I have lived through. I was afraid of sharing my skeletons. I mean who in their right mind pulls back the curtain and says, “Hey look at this?”

It’s even crazier that I feel it necessary to call out every day inviting people to read what I have written. I am compelled to do so for I know who I was. Thanks to the wicked games the evil one plays and the allotment of tools and pawns he has at hand to use in this warfare we are all a part of, I was a lost child of God so full of confusion I couldn’t see myself as God sees me. We often give credit where credit is not due. We only need to look in the oldest history book on earth to see the evil one in action right at the start of things. Did he stop once he got Adam and Eve kicked out of the Garden? No, he went after their children and he hasn’t stopped since.

Many people misunderstand how the evil one sets things in motion. I think we are prepared for some big scene like in the movies where the devil is an obvious character, easily recognized. Oh! If it were only that simple! I was shocked the first time I realized I had a negative sound loop playing in the back of my mind. We all talk to ourselves negatively. This is a habit we must immediately begin to break. However, what the evil one softly whispers to us about ourselves is directly meant to keep us from our purpose!

It is important to discover and understand how the evil one works. When playing sports, don’t we study our competition? When coming against an opponent one on one, don’t you study their strong points in an attempt to discover their weakness? Satan has only one weakness and that is Christ. Christ was the victor when the two of them battled. Christ is the one you need to know in order to win the daily battle. EVERY day is a battle. Every day, no ifs ands or butts about it, EVERY DAY is going to be a battle. Here is a little poem I wrote the other day. In reading it perhaps your eyes will be opened slightly to the ways of Satan and just how shrewd he is as well as how you can defend yourself against him!

A seed planted often grows.
This truth the evil one knows.
A fiery arrow without the shield of faith will take hold.
“Don’t worry about tomorrow” in God’s word we are told.
We must put on our armor daily for the fight is real.
Don’t forget for one moment the thief came to steal.
He’s out to rob you of your joy and peace
For the evil one the fight does not cease
He’s been hard at work, his harvest is large
I’m waging in the war, I’m leading a charge
I’m part of the eternal brother and sisterhood
Reminding those listening of something good
A promise of freedom, and unending love
Support like none other from our Father above
Don’t be fooled, our Father is just
In this truth, you must trust
No matter what this world brings,
Turn to Him for all things.

You may think to yourself, “This girl is crazy. God doesn’t care about me. Look at all He’s allowed me to suffer through.”

I say, “God called me forth to share my story; the ugly and the good alike. In reading you will fully see that I am indeed someone who has walked in your shoes. While it is true today I am full of joy, I have faced my own share of problems as well as adversaries. In reading my story you will see that I went against God’s wishes for me, even believing I could outsmart Him. I have blamed God for things, yelled at God for things and was even convinced He was out to get me a time or two. I have not had it easy to say the least!

All I want out of each day is to find one person who is calling out asking, “How can I have a better life?” If that’s you, it’s my belief that my story will help you. Let me be a light so bright there is not doubt just exactly what my purpose is all about. I was born to give you glory simply by sharing the truth about my story. Help me father cause a turn in this fight. In the city of darkness let me be the light! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Are You in Search of a Better Life?

It’s Tremendously Thankful Thoughtful Thursday and today I am thankful that I got to a level of such great frustration regarding my circumstance that I sought God’s opinion on the matter. I knew I had tried everything possible. The only thing I hadn’t sought was God’s opinion in the matter.

I figured since He’d called me by name the last time I had found myself on my knees and after that when I had cried out to Him, He’d sent an Angel Band to sing a message to me that perhaps He’d have some great wisdom to offer regarding how to improve my relationship with Mike, the father of my last five children. In the process of my seeking, I ended up learning about Christ. Knowing God and talking to Him is VERY important. Getting to KNOW Christ will change your life and how you live it as well as what happens to you upon your ultimate demise here on earth. 

It was in following a one year study on the ministry of Christ that I was convinced that Christ was just who He claimed to be. He is the Son of God. He is the way, the truth and the life. John: 14:6 ~ Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” If you are wondering just who God is, you should educate yourself on Jesus. Many have bought into the idea that Jesus was a great moral teacher or a good guy, this is simply a baseless claim. I myself could not argue this misconception any better than the very words uttered by C.W. Lewis on the matter; “I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: “I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That is the one thing we must not say. A man who said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” 

That statement doesn’t leave any room for argument on the matter of just exactly who Christ is. 
Today’s encouraging word courtesy of K-Love is this: So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ ~ Romans 10:17 (NLT) 

I would have to concur that when I understood that Christ was exactly who He said he was, I was finally able to grasp the message of Grace. I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior and vowed to spend the rest of my life sharing the Good News about Christ. I made this committment not for fame or fortune but for the simple truth that in knowing the truth for the first time in my life I found myself completely free of bondage. All my chains were broken and I was truly free. Satan no longer bound me with fear, self-doubt, anxiety, or any of his other cruel chains of slavery. When you discover such a thing as true freedom, you are compelled to share it. You simply cannot help yourself. It’s exciting stuff. I guess that is why I love to read what Paul wrote. Admittedly, I have seen an angel who talked to me and gave me a message. I have also had angels sing to me; not once but twice. If you love music, you are going to be in awe at the instrumental sounds in Heaven. I fought a house fire with angels at my side. I couldn’t see them, but I heard one of them clearly. He instructed me on everything I needed to do. I actually inhaled a ton of toxic smoke and passed out, falling to the floor. I came to as I was given a fresh breath of air and I was advised to stay low as people died in fires. In the midst of desperate prayer, God spoke to me, calling me by my name and prophesied to me. All of these stories can be read in great detail in my third book; Angels, Answers, Signs and Wonders.

However, Paul, who was previously known as Saul, was at a point in his life where he had been persecuting the first Christians believing in doing so he was bringing Glory to God when he was suddenly blinded by the light of Christ and shown the truth. He went from being a murderer of Christians to an Apostle of Christ, bringing the good news to the gentiles and Jews alike. He spent the rest of his life professing the Good News. Talk about an intervention of sorts. Christ could have easily ended Paul’s life. Instead he transformed him into a new creation. This is truly what will happen to you when you come to KNOW who Christ is as well as who You ARE in Christ! I get why Paul was so devoted to the Lord. 

Today I would encourage you to simply start seeking the truth for yourself. You could begin by reading my books. God called me forth for a purpose. My purpose, much like Paul’s purpose was, is to get to know Christ and in turn reveal both the truth and the Glory of God to all who are willing to dive into my story. If you are a reader who enjoys a great story, or one who likes sequels, then my books are right up your alley. When I first began blogging, my call out ad I posted to sway people to read my posts was something like this: “I’ve been called out to share my story, from running away to being married off in a shotgun wedding, from becoming a high-school dropout to a teenage mom, from birthing babies to giving one up for adoption as well as both aborting and living through a miscarriage, being molested at gun point as well as finding myself in abusive relationships, to almost killing myself as well as using drugs, I have worn a lot of shoes that I would have preferred to never pull out from the recesses of my closet. However I cannot deny God’s request. Please come read all He has called me out to share.” 

In a couple of years, I found myself being read in countries I had never heard of. It has been a blessing to share the truth about myself. The evil one has attempted time and time again to keep me from my purpose and in telling my story, God revealed all of this to me in such a way that those who read my story also see their way to true freedom. Do You KNOW Who You Are in Christ?

Today is totally terrific testimonial tell all Tuesday. Without going into great detail, yesterday was a day that the world tried to jerk the financial carpet out from under me. After the loss of the baby I was expecting to arrive next year, nothing else really compares to the emotions an event like that has on a person. As the bad news rolled in, I resolved to trust in God and keep my focus on the truth. I am a child of God. He is my provider. What the world takes away, He replaces. I refused to worry and took the advice I gave my readers. Even though I was staring at a bank account that was quickly dwindling with no idea where more was going to come from or when it would arrive, I went to the store and bought after school snacks for the children and 4 gallons of water so that I could continue to make myself both coffee and Sustain. All day long I talked to God, I thanked Him for always taking care of me. I put in some applications for employment, marketed my books and my blog. I asked my friends that believe in prayer to pray for me.  I asked all my friends to please view my new website as having steady traffic increases traffic from strangers. This month has been my biggest month concerning the money I earn from those who visit my website. You don't get paid by google until you reach $100 from those who let your youtube ads play without clicking them off or those who enter windows of interest off of your site. I'm only $53 and some change away from a paycheck lol.

This morning, I received a call from a company that was impressed with my resume and had my first phone interview. The man on the other end said he was impressed with me and I had made it to phase two. He told me the only way someone would have a leg up on me was if they had hazard waste experience. My next interview will take place either later today or tomorrow morning. He wasn't sure which. Still not bad for a days effort!

The best news I received this morning was in regards to the funds that I had been told I would not be receiving any longer. Turns out being kind and telling the truth pays off. I spoke to an official this morning who granted me my check for two more weeks. I could have easily stressed yesterday. I could have let my bad news of the morning ruin my entire day. I could have easily laid in bed crying about how unfair life is. If I didn't have the confidence that I have in who I am in Christ, most likely that is exactly what I would have done. When you discover who you are in Christ, you also discover a source of never ending strength that allows you to not only survive, it helps you thrive! In the words of Mandissa, "I'm an Overcomer!" Are You a Pawn or a Knight? (Revamped10:18:22)?

When I first awoke this morning I found God and His will on my mind. The song that came to mind was "Good God Almighty" by David Crowder. I grabbed my phone and looked it up on you tube, for my heart was overflowing and it needed to worship. Next I opened up my phone and sought out what others in my followersof Christ group had to share and instantly, I was shown this picture that referenced Psalms 150 which just so happens to line up with my heart song. Next I opened up my email searching for an encouraging word for the day from a devotional:
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek him. ~ Hebrews 11:6 NIV
I read this and instantly grabbed my computer knowing the words were about to flow.
It was Abraham’s faith that allowed him to find favor with the Lord. It was David’s faith that the Lord would protect him that allowed him to show grace to Saul even as Saul was trying to kill David. It was by faith that Noah built an arc in dry land, where they had yet to see a single drop of rain!. It is by faith that you are saved through grace. Grace. It is a beautiful thing.
I think along with faith, one must have trust in the Lord. When we read another verse from God’s Word, we discover this:
Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not on your own understanding. ~ Proverbs 3:5 NIV
You see, we live in a fallen world. While so many of us are willing to consider the possibilities of vampires,  werewolves, zombies, along with other things that go bump in the night, the majority of us refuse to see the truth of our circumstance. We live daily in a world that is fighting a spiritual war. Whether we like it or not, all of us are participants in the war. Some of us are awake and see what is going on and we dress daily for the battle. Sadly because those of us that see are a minority compared to those of us that either don’t see and those that refuse to see, family and friends alike are being used against us.
Trust in the Lord is part of your armor. When you have trust in the Lord, you fight the world differently. In a way you rest through the battle compared to fighting the battle without the Lord on your side. You do work but it is work that is gratifying verses the type of fighting that leaves one exhausted and depleted. The work you do is prayer and giving things to God and NOT taking them back! Another part of your work is reading God’s Word daily so that you are prepared daily with words of both wisdom and grace. King David, known as a great warrior, dressed daily for the spiritual war he faced. He was a part of more than one monumental battle. Can you imagine having to serve a king who was out to kill you? Could you fathom having the opportunity to kill this foe, not once but twice, having found him literally delivered to you? King David had this happen in his lifetime and both times, he extended his enemy grace. He also spoke to his enemy telling him of all that had taken place while he slept. Saul saw that David loved the Lord and was not really  his enemy but sadly Saul was not dressing for the war he was fighting. He allowed his mind to be tormented with thoughts of jealousy and it was in all actuality the death of him.
David was not innocent of sin. None of us are. There is a story in the bible where King David wanted a women who belonged to another. He wanted her so desperately that he sent her husband off to war with the intention of getting him killed. King David paid a dear price for this sin. Rather than shout at the Lord angrily for his loss, King David owned up to his wrong doing and asked for forgiveness and again worshiped the Lord and stepped boldly back into the light for the darkness that was overtaking him was now overshadowed by God’s loving grace. Had David quickly grabbed his necessary armor when sin crouched at his door perhaps he might not have stumbled. I doubt it though for all of us stumble. We are human. Satan has been around tormenting souls for a long time. He even sought to tempt Jesus. He even tried to keep him from his purpose by weighing him down. Jesus though was without sin and dressed properly every moment of His life.  You are only fooling yourself if you think you are an exception when it comes to the ways of sin.
The evil one fights in various cruel ways. He sends negative thoughts to you and if you are not properly dressed, carrying your shield of faith at all times, you simply don’t possess the needed items to distinguish the fiery flames of self-doubt, jealousy, anger, bitterness, and worry just to name a few.  Even with being prepared the majority of the time, the evil one comes at you day and night. I wrote a blog that is featured on my home page about a time that the enemy was trying to convince me that I should stop writing for the Lord. He was mocking me and telling me that my writing was awful and that people saw me as a joke and even suggested that I destroy all I had written prior including my first published book. This took place as I was in the process of editing my sequel. Had I not been in the habit of beginning each day with a snippet of God’s word I would have been sucked under and who knows where I would be today. Instead, I knew I was under siege. An attack so forceful I told Mike, my significant other, what was taking and place and dashed to the kitchen to my special stash of brain empowering chocolate! The whole sequence of events just replayed in my head and admittedly I needed that dose of humor.
Today I could allow myself to be sucked under by negative thoughts. It would be easy in a way to lay in bed all day and bawl my eyes out over all that had taken place in the last 12 months. However that moment too has passed and today is a new day. I know with all my heart this very reason, the emotional heart throbbing, breath stealing pain that we all face at some point during our lifetime, is why we are also given the mandate to love God with all our heart, mind, and soul. If he is our stronghold, nothing in this world will have the power to ultimately destroy us. Combine that with these words of wisdom:
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ~ Matthew 6:34 NIV, and you will always be able at stand firmly on your faith.
The evil one wants to pull us into tomorrow while he also jerks us into the past. The purpose of pulling us into tomorrow and next week and next year is so that our focus is ahead of us. This little trick of his increases our anxiety about the future. So much so that many of us seek to have it told to us. What on earth are we in a rush for? Enjoy this moment. You only live it once!  The reason he drags us into the past is to highlight our failures. This way he can fill us with self-doubt and self ridicule. That my friends is a vicious battle to fight without the right armor. If you were to read the bible you would understand that Jesus, both the son of God and the Son of Man, also battled against Satan while he resided on earth in the flesh. Interestingly enough do you know what Jesus used to defeat Satan? He used ALL of his armor EVERY DAY. He taught his disciples to dress for battle. There are incredible examples of solutions to all of life’s problems within God’s Word. People are always reading self help books and searching for the perfect recipe for success. If they spent half that energy on their relationship with the Lord they’d be much more joyous.  If we got real honest that is what we are all searching for; A life without worries of any kind so that we can live peacefully and enjoy life. That my friends is what happens when you discover the truth. I ask you this simple question, “Do you know who you are in Christ?”

Guard You Mind!

While media will always have its benefits, as a whole, society is reaping more harm than good from it. This is why we must pay close attention to not only how much time we are spending watching and engaging in media; we must also pay close attention to the content we are viewing and allowing our families to view.

One cannot deny the truth that what we put into our minds affects our thoughts, emotions and behavior. This truth is proven through advertising campaigns alone! This is most easily witnessed through children. Having raised 9 of my own, I can attest to the difference there is in walking through the cereal aisle with children who are not exposed to television ads and those that have been exposed to them! The majority of food advertisements found on television are for presweetened cereal, sweets of all kinds including soft drinks, and fast food establishments. Adults are just as easily swayed by what they are told is hot and what is not. This type of marketing along with the extended time spent sitting still either watching television or engaging in some form of social media or game play is wreaking havoc with our overall health. Obesity in both children and adults is increasing at an alarming rate. (Influence on the health and well-being of children and youth, 2003)

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) believes that children 2 years old and younger should not be exposed to television at all. Their reasoning stems from the fact that the first two years of life are when a child develops critical thinking skills. According to an article they published, they explain that “electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” (AAP)

When it comes to children who are 2 years and older, the AAP feels that it is important to not only limit the time spent in front of television; parents must pay close attention to the content. Too much television as well as negative content has been proven to be detrimental to children. The AAP also states that when children spend 4 hours or more watching TV, they are more likely to become overweight. They also found that children who view violent content not only tended to be more aggressive themselves, they also had a higher fear that something bad might happen to them; proving that violent content affects children mentally and physically. In a study looking at the psychological effects of viewing negative news items, the research team involved discovered that the participants that viewed the negative news items were significantly more anxious and sadder than those who viewed either the neutral news or the positive news. On top of that, they were also more likely to enlarge their worries. (Graham C.L. Davey, The Psychological Effects of TV News, 2012)

A more recent study of the social media platform, specifically having been focused on Facebook, shows that Facebook has the power to affect a person’s mood. According to a study where the research team focused on weather patterns and the effect they played on people’s moods, they discovered that where it rained, people tended to feel down. When this happened, the people who were dealing with rain, tended to write more negative posts. This had a trickle down effect. Friends of negative posters, tended to be pulled into their own bad mood even when their own weather was nice. Interestingly, they also found that people who had a majority of positive posters were more positive themselves! This proves that what you see and read has an affect on how you feel. Recently, I discovered this truth for myself. Due to required reading for a college class, I had to not only view disturbing articles, I had to think deeply on them and then write reports. One particular essay disturbed my thoughts and affected me mentally for over two weeks! (physchcentral.com)

Another study found that platforms such as Facebook can actually cause people to become miserable. Through the study it was discovered that the amount of use had a direct effect on the user’s state of mind. The results showed that the more time a person spent on Facebook, the more their state of well being declined. (physchcentral.com)

Another study showed that Facebook tends to increase the anxiety levels of its users; so much so that their sleep patterns were being affected. The increase is credited to the constant need for posting updates as well as the increasing need to know what might have been recently posted by others. This desire can cause one to begin thinking it is necessary to constantly check their accounts. With time constraints already pressing on most people, the need to spend more time on Facebook as well as other social media platforms can overwhelm its users. (Physchcentral.com)

A follow up study found that using social media such as Facebook tends to make people feel inadequate. This feeling of inadequacy contributes to higher levels of anxiety. Additional studies have found that programs such as Facebook can increase the amount of social anxiety. They originally thought that by getting to know someone on social media and then meeting them in person would decrease this type of anxiety, but the research has proven otherwise! If all of this were not alarming enough to our own personal well being, through media of all types including music, studies show ample evidence of the sexualization of women. Further research ties sexualization to eating disorders, low self-esteem and depression or depressed moods. With so much exposure to media images, girls believe that what they see is how they should look and act to be desired or worthy of a man’s attention. There is even evidence from studies showing that men being exposed to a very narrow aspect of what the world sees as attractive, may find it hard to be pleased by any partners that don’t fit into the current media projection of what makes a women worth fighting for. According to research by Patricia Greenfield, UCLA distinguished professor of psychology and director of the Children’s Digital Media Center, Los Angeles, our analytical and critical thinking skills are on the decline because technology is playing a bigger role in our lives. (UCLA Newsroom)

It is true that media has been around long before our generation ever came to be. There is historical proof of advertising dating back to Ancient Greece. (wikipedia) There really is no way you can completely avoid media. The Holy Bible in all honesty is a form of media. Everyone has to recognize that there are indeed positives that we can gain as a society from the various sources. When we search out what the Word of God has to say when it comes to what we put in our minds, we find advice such as this:

Romans 12:2 NIV: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is ~ his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Not only does this verse enlighten us that this world has a pattern and that pattern is not a good thing for us to follow, we are told that one can indeed renew their mind. With the knowledge of how we can be affected negatively by all media, we must pay close attention to what we allow ourselves to focus on. This truth is highlighted in the following book of the Holy Bible:

Philippians 4:8-9 NIV: Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable ~ if anything is excellent or praise worthy ~ think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me ~ put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

With so much evidence proving beyond a shadow of doubt that media as a whole can be detrimental to our well being, we need to use our critical thinking skills to analyze what is good for us and what is not.

Do You Consider Yourself Among the Humble?

The humble will see their God at work and be glad. Let all who seek God's help be encouraged. Psalm 69:32 NLT

I have wondered often if I fall into humble or haughty. I try to keep myself in check during the times in my life when my head has gotten too large. I have even prayed for help in this area yet this morning as I read this encouraging word I could not help but smile at its message.

For my third book is full of recognition for the work God has done in my life and I am both glad and encouraged every time I read any part of it.  For this reason alone, I would encourage you to read this third volume that God placed on my heart to write. Should you find yourself moved the slightest, I would encourage you to read the first two volumes as well . . . He had me write them in hopes of encouraging and strengthening the faith of many . . . will you be one of them?

The God of Angel Armies

It is Super Silly Sing Song Saturday according to my faith calendar I created for myself. This morning Mike found K-Love on the radio for me. The first full song I heard was "Whom Shall I fear" by Chris Tomlin. It is truly something when you realize the God we serve is indeed the God of angel armies.

When we dive into the Holy Bible, we are told about angels and messages they brought to various people including Mary and Joseph. I too have seen an Angel. I even had an army of angels help me defeat a three alarm fire in my last true home that I lived in for seven years. When I hear a song like Chris Tomlin's, it almost brings me to tears at the same time that it brings me to total awe. God loves us so much it is at times overwhelming for me. How can one cry and laugh at the exact same moment? It is my belief it is out of pure appreciation and awe at the depth of the love the Lord holds for his creation.

I often wonder, "Who am I to have been so blessed?" I know the answer, I am a child of God. It is my belief that knowing that truth, that I am a child of God, is what has kept hope alive inside of me through all of my rough bumps in the road.

I heard another song this morning but I don't know who sang it or the title. All I caught was the gist of the song itself. Basically the singer was saying something like, 'You may look at your life and wonder what went wrong, how you got to where you are today, but you are not at the end of your story. You are only in the middle.'

I don't know how many of you reading this have read my first book, "In the Beginning", but those that have know that my life did not turn out the way I thought it would. Certainly in the middle I felt just like that. Somehow what I had planned had spiraled into nothing that I had planned! Those that have continued to read my story from 'In the Beginning' to 'Marriage, Motherhood, and My Moral Meltdown' know that is the absolute truth! I would have to say all the awful things I have done and lived through have been a blessing in a weird way. You see, we are not born to judge. I certainly have no leg to stand on when it comes to being self righteous. I consider myself among the lowest of the low so it amazes me that God sees me through a different lens. This is the same lens we are to see each other with.

Today as you go about your day, I encourage you to see yourself as God sees you. When I look in the mirror, I see a plain girl who is still carrying too much weight on her bones. This is my flesh view. I know the majority of us look in the mirror and criticize various aspects of ourselves. I urge you to not look at the outer shell but to go deeper and look at the light inside. We are children of God. Fashioned in His image. It is a trick of the mind that makes us doubt our beauty. It is the world that mandates what is pretty or handsome and what is not. We are not of this world so why should we care what the world says of us? We should not. Instead we should do as we are advised in Philippians 4:8, as quoted from my NIV Study Bible:

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable ~ if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.

I know many in the world have a misconception of just what is in the Holy Bible. The Word of God is twisted and used to manipulate people. We are even warned that this will happen. We are warned to stay close to the truth and to not be tricked by false witnesses and teachers. Their is power in knowing Christ, but you should not seek to know Christ to gain power. You seek to know Him because you desire freedom, not control of others. When you get the message of Grace you realize how twisted religion can be. How cruel it can be. It is just like the Pharisees and Sadducees ruling over the people. Burdening them with ridiculous laws that were never God's design. They plotted to kill Jesus because he was teaching the truth and that truth was going to remove their power. They simply could not have that. Gaining power is not what we are born to do. We were born to bring Glory to God and to love one another. Now that sounds like heaven to me!

Today I pray that more and more and more people are drawn to the truth. I pray that my books and blogs that God encouraged me to share with the world are read and are shared. I pray the encourage countless to discover the truth for themselves and in turn share it with others. I pray the light inside of us shines so brightly we drown out the darkness. In Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Unending Love, the Theme of the Bible

Jesus is the theme of the bible and through him, God not
only created all we know, He reveals his unending love and purpose for us.

John 1:1-5: In the Beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things
came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that
has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.

Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in
that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than having been
justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through him.

From the very beginning, God revealed his pleasure in
hanging out with Adam.

Genesis 2:19: Out of the ground the LORD God formed every
beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to
see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature,
that was its name.

As a parent, I have experienced the pleasure in my own
children learning the names of things. I can only imagine the joy the LORD
experienced as he brought each creation before Adam to decide upon its name.

As we continue to read the story of Adam, we are introduced
to Eve, the perfect helper and companion God created for Adam out of Adam.

Genesis 2: 22-23: The LORD God fashioned into a woman the
rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh’ She shall be called
Woman, Because she was taken out of man.”

God continues to show us how much he loves us and enjoys
hanging out with us by sharing the truth of how we came to live in a fallen
world. As a child, I can honestly say I walked and talked with God on a daily
basis. I have even felt him chuckle at the way in which I thought I would be of
great use to him. This foundation is what helped me through the toughest and roughest
years of my life. In the story of man’s creation, we are not told how long Adam
and Eve enjoyed their face to face relationship with the LORD, but we know it
existed!

Genesis 3: 8-10: They heard the sound of the LORD God
walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid
themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” He said,
“I heard the sound of You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked,
so I hid myself.

How many times have we tried to hide from the LORD God only
to discover at some point, He has pursued us as well?

While the LORD God could have ended the human race right
then and there, he instead chose a way to reconcile us to Him once again.

Genesis 3:15: And I will put enmity between you and the
woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And
you shall bruise him on the heel.”

As the story unfolds, we are next introduced to Cain and
Abel. Once again, it is revealed that God speaks to his people.

Genesis 4:6-7: Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you
angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will not your
countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the
door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.

As we know, Cain chose not to listen to God and instead
opened the door to sin and murdered his brother. One might think after this the
LORD would give up on the human race, but he doesn’t. Adam and Eve are
appointed another offspring that they name Seth. Through Seth’s descendants, we
are introduced to Noah.

In the days of Noah we read that the LORD grieved over his
creation.

Genesis 6:6: The LORD was sorry that He had made man on
earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

We are told he was so grieved, he said he would wipe out
even the animals, the creeping things and the birds. Just as one might think it
was over for mankind, we read about Noah and discover that he found favor in
the eyes of the LORD.

We are shown that Noah enjoyed a close relationship with the
LORD. I say that due to the faith Noah showed in building an arc as the LORD
God commanded. When the flood was over, God established a covenant with Noah
and his descendents. He blessed Noah and his sons telling them to be fruitful
and multiply, and fill the earth.

We are shown that without faith it is impossible to please
God because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he
rewards those who seek him earnestly. It was by faith that that Noah built the
arc in the middle of dry land. It was also by faith that Abraham went out to a
place to receive an inheritance without knowing where he was going.

In God’s eyes, the greatest heroes of the faith are not
those who achieve prosperity, success, and power in this life, but those who
treat this life as a temporary assignment and serve faithfully, expecting their
promised reward in eternity. (Daily Inspiration for the Purpose Driven Life,

We are also shown that opening yourself up to God is the way
to obtain a closer relationship with the Lord as we read the story of Job. As
it comes to a close, we are once again shown that God communicates directly with
His people. We see he values the relationships he has with those that depend on
him and he does indeed reward them for their faith.

Job 42:10: The LORD restored the fortunes of Job when he
prayed for his friends, and the LORD increased all that Job had twofold. 

All through the Old Testament books we are shown example
after example that God is more than involved, we are shown that He is fond of
us. Even when Moses threw a temper tantrum of sorts, God revealed he would do
as Moses had requested. We are told that Moses found favor in the LORD’s Sight.
He even tells us that God knew Moses by name! Calling someone by their name
confirms that you know them.

Exodus 34:17: The LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this
thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have
known you by name.”

Again and again we read about God and the relationships he
has enjoyed with those who seek him and come to him with thankfulness in their
hearts; fully knowing, believing that He is the Most High God deserving of our
worship.

In reading the Daily Inspiration for the Purpose Driven
Life, we are shown that we were created for God’s pleasure. We are also shown
that we were formed specifically for God’s family. It is with that knowledge
that we begin to understand that we were created to become like Christ and we
were shaped to serve God.

God loves us so much, He sent his son to save us. I don’t
know how much more proof man needs to be able to see the depth of God’s love
for mankind than that! However God takes it one step further and lets us know
that he did not come to judge but to save thus putting sinners minds and hearts
at ease.

John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His
only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have
eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world,
but that the world might be saved through Him.

As we read in our text book, we discover the message in the
Book of Acts is this: Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

In closing, I would like to share a reading from my favorite
devotional:

Seek my face, and you will find fulfillment of your deepest
longings. My world is filled with beautiful things; they are meant to be
pointers to Me, reminders of My abiding Presence. The earth still declares My
Glory to those who have eyes that see and ears that hear.

You had a darkened mind before you sought me wholeheartedly.
I chose to pour My Light into you so that you can be a beacon to others. There
is no room for pride in this position. Your part is to reflect My Glory. I am
the Lord! (Jesus Calling, Sarah Young, 2004 Thomas Nelson, page 165)

For all of these reasons and more, I know that God loves me
and my purpose is to serve Him by revealing His Glory through my testimony.

Reviewing the Evidence Found Regarding the Manuscripts

To Verify the Validity and Purpose of the Scriptures

I decided to select Manuscripts as my evidence because
studying God’s word has helped me in my daily defense. We all live in a fallen
world and whether we choose to recognize it or not, we are in the midst of a
Spiritual War. I have found that having God’s word fresh in my mind helps me
recognize when I have been pulled into battle. By preparing myself first thing
each day through reading God’s word, I am able to stand firm in my faith and
not faint when trouble comes looking for me. Instead, I lean on God’s word, the
sword of the Spirit, and I wield it in my defense.

Ephesians 6:17 : Take the helmet of salvation and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

I found it interesting that the first video recorded
by Dr. Yohn was on the topic of faith and how for it to be of sustenance, it
must be based on evidence. It is hard for an honest person to deny that the
Bible truly is a collection of 66 books that hold one basic concept built
around one basic theme. Again and again, as Dr. Yohn mentioned in his You Tube
video, it is a story of redemption.

Learning about the validity and history of the
manuscripts is a large part of why I enrolled in this course. I am new to
studying the Bible and  I have quickly
recognized the importance of knowing both the history of the time during which each
book was written as well as the background of each author.

Being a writer myself, I recognized the styles of
writing in the various books that Dr Yohn highlighted in the fist video:

1.     Biography

2.     Prophecy

3.     Romance

4.     Song

5.     History

6.     Satire

7.     Parable

However, I did not know there were 40 authors who
wrote these 66 books over a 1500 period of time! I also learned that all of the
manuscripts were written in 3 main languages: Hebrew, Arabic, and Greek.
Another fact I found intriguing was the short span of time between copies of
both the Old and New Testaments as well as their accuracy levels. When you
couple that with the fact that the few words in question do nothing to change
the message, I am elated that I am left with no doubt regarding both the
validity and the purpose of scripture.

Regarding the accuracy of the Bible, I am quoting Sir
Frederic G Keyon, the director and principal librarian of the British museum who
writes, “In no other case is the interval of time between the composition of
the book and the date of the earliest manuscripts so short as that of the New
Testament.”

When it comes to understanding that truth as a
follower of Christ, I love being that much more confident in the fact that the
Bible alone is indeed the Holy Word of God. It warmed my heart to read what
Ravi Zecharias had to say regarding the New Testament, “In real terms, the
New Testament is easily the best attested ancient writing in terms of the sheer
number of documents, the time span between the events and the document and the
variety of documents available to sustain or contradict it. There is nothing in
ancient manuscript evidence to match such textual availability and integrity.”

After reviewing all of this evidence, my faith in the
Bible being God’s word has only been strengthened.

King David ~ Quite the Character!


King David is my all time favorite person from the Old
Testament. We read in 1 Samuel 16:1 that David resides in Bethlehem, the very
town in which Jesus enters the scene as a new born baby!

1 Samuel 16:1: The LORD said to Samuel, “How long will you
mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as King over Israel? Fill your horn
with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have
chosen one of his sons to be king.”

Very quickly in David’s life, he is called into service
under King Saul. First as the boy who played the lyre for Saul when he was
tormented by an evil spirit, and then as the courageous young man who defeated
Goliath, a champion from Gath who came out of the Philistine camp. While David
was short in size and young in age, he was full of confidence in both God’s
Plan and Protection.

1 Samuel 17:37 “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the
lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.

David continued to serve under Saul in his armies and was
continually successful in the missions he was sent on and Saul gave him a high
rank in the army. Over time, Saul became jealous of David.

1 Samuel 8:8: Saul was very angry; this refrain displeased
him greatly. “They have credited David with tens of thousands,” he thought,
“but me with only thousands. What more can he get but the kingdom?

Soon, Saul’s jealousy caused him to attempt to kill David.
The attitude that David showed in return to Saul’s anger is a foreshadowing of
what Christ would teach upon on the sermon of the mount when it comes to how to
treat your enemies.

David reveals great character by allowing Saul to live even
though Saul was attempting to murder David. In 1 Samuel 24, we read how David
responds to Saul’s jealousy and bitterness that had grown so large; he was
hunting David with the intention of killing him. When Saul is delivered into
David’s hand, David decides to spare Saul’s life.

In 1 Samuel 24: 12-13, we read that David decided to let the
LORD be the judge between them. He quotes an old saying ‘From evildoers come
evil deeds’ and this is why he refuses to lay a hand on Saul. He stays true to
his promise as we read in 1 Samuel 26 when he again has the opportunity to kill
Saul. His faith in the Lord protecting him and dealing with others is so great,
we read this:

1 Samuel 26: 9-11: But David said to Abishai, “Don’t destroy
him! Who can lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed and be guiltless? As surely as
the LORD lives,” he said, “the LORD himself will strike him, or his time will
come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish. But the LORD forbid
that I should lay a hand on the LORD’s anointed. Now get the spear and water
jug that are near his head, and let’s go.”

Saul does end up dieing in battle. After this event, all the
tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and reminded him that the LORD had
said David would shepherd his people and become their ruler. David was only 30
years old when he became king and he ruled for 40 years before passing the
throne on to Solomon.

During his reign, the Lord caused the united kingdom to
prosper, to defeat its enemies, and in fulfillment of his promise, to extend
its borders from Egypt to the Euphrates.

Genesis 15:18: On that day the LORD made a covenant with
Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt
to the great river, the Euphrates.

It is later made known through the prophets that a descendant
of David will perfectly fulfill the role of the theocratic king. ( NIV Study
Bible, 2011 edition, 2 Samuel introduction, p.457)

Skeptics of the Bible claimed that King David was a
fictional character because there was no archeological evidence to prove
otherwise; that all changed in 1993 at the site of Tel Dan in northern Israel during
an excavation directed by Israeli archeologist Avraham Biran.

What they discovered was a stone tablet with an inscription
on it commemorating the victory of an Aramean king over his two southern
neighbors: the “king of Israel” and the “king of the House of David” (Based on
“Issue 200: Ten Top Discoveries,” Biblical Archeology Review,
July/August September/October 2009.)

I also chose to write my character sketch on King David
because I love his loyalty to and love for the Lord. While there are obvious
moments where he stumbles, David remains faithful in his devotion to the Lord.
Even when his baby son passes away, he does not turn from the Lord in anger.
Instead, after he plead with God in every way possible and his son still
passed, he accepted the choice of the Lord and informed his servants his son
would not join him here but rather he would see him on the other side.

In my opinion, God uses the story of David to reveal both
how blessed and protected one is when they are faithful to the Lord as well as
truths into the resurrection. I see this playing out in David’s confidence that
he would see his son again.

2 Samuel 12: 22-23: He answered, “While the child was still
alive, I fasted and wept. I thought, ‘Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me
and let the child live.’ But now that he is dead, why should I go on fasting?
Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

I love that the man that is referred to as a man after God’s
heart is the direct lineage that Christ comes from. I truly believe it is no
coincidence that both of their stories begin in the tiny town of Bethlehem!

I also find it interesting that not only are both of these
men from Bethlehem, they are both referred to as shepherds. I think that
David’s protection of his sheep are a direct link to the protection we receive
from the Lord himself.
